Nikon D90: HD Video-Enabled SLR Announced

August 27, 2008 – After weeks of rumors, Nikon has finally annnounced the D90, a 12.3-megapixel SLR capable of shooting video in 1280 x720 high definition. This successor to the two-year-old D80 is scheduled to ship in November at $999.95 for the body alone or $1299 with an 18-105mm VR lens. See the full story for additional details.

Casio Adds Digital “Makeup” in Two Cameras
August 20, 2008 - Casio today introduced three compact cameras, two of which incorporate a new processing module called EXILIM Engine 3.0. In addition to enhanced lighting compensation and anti-shake functions, the new engine enables a feature called “Makeup” that smoothes skin and softens shadows in portrait shots. As the photographer adjusts the strength of the effect, the result is shown live on the LCD display. The three cameras, with prices ranging from $179.99 to $299.99, will be available in October. Fujifilm Announces Three New Models
August 12, 2008 – Fujifilm USA today introduced three new compact cameras, ranging in price from $199.95 to $299.95, all of which are scheduled to ship in September. The 10-megapixel FinePix S2000HD (seen here) is Fujifilm's first camera to support high-definition video (1280 x 720 resolution). The FinePix F60fd delivers 12-megapixel resolution, sensor-shift image stabilization and an automatic scene recognition system. And the compact 10-megapixel FinePix J150w features a 5x zoom (28mm-140mm equivalent) with a substantial 3-inch LCD, housed in a slender 0.9-inch (22.6 mm) body. Olympus Introduces Two 8MP Compacts
August 19, 2008 – Olympus has announced two new FE-series compact cameras, both slated to ship this month, and both offering 8-megapixel resolution. The FE-360 (shown here) features a 3x zoom lens in a slender 0.7-inch-deep camera, priced at $149.99. Adobe Updates Photoshop Elements and Photoshop.com
August 26, 2008 - Adobe announced Photoshop Elements 7 and a significant enhancement to its Photoshop.com online offering today. The software additions include expanded quick-fix tools plus guided step-by-step editing sequences covering adjustments for levels and distortion effects, image cropping and artistic effects. In addition, Adobe announced a tiered upgrade to its Photoshop.com web site, with 5 GB of online storage for software purchasers and 20 GB plus additional benefits for a $49.95 annual fee. Canon Adds Four Compact Cameras
August 26, 2008 – Canon today updated its A series line with two new models, introduced the 10x zoom PowerShot SX110 and the E1 camera designed for the "tween" market. The A2000 IS and A1000 IS (shown here) feature similar body styles, 10-megapixel resolution, optical image stabilization and AA battery power, differing in zoom lens and LCD specs. The E1 is another 10-megapixel introduction with 4x zoom and 2.5" LCD. It comes in pink, blue and white and offers user-selectable shutter sounds.

Canon Intros DIGIC IV Processor with New SLR
August 26, 2008 – Canon today announced the first camera to incorporate the company’s new DIGIC IV processor. The EOS 50D, a 15-megapixel digital SLR priced at $1399 (body only), is slated to ship in October. While the new camera shares many features with the existing EOS 40D, it represents a substantial jump in image resolution, ISO range and LCD performance.

Panasonic Intros 4 Point-and-Shoots
July 21, 2008 - Panasonic announced a varied slate of upscale compact cameras today, including the 18x ultra-zoom DMC-FZ28 ($399.95), the 14.7-megapixel DMC-FX150, the DMC-LX3 ($499.95), successor to the widely praised LX2 high-performance model, and the point-and-shoot oriented DMC-FX3 ($349.99). While each has its own distinctive features, they also share important core specs, including Leica lenses, optical image stabilization and a processor step-up to the Venus IV engine.

Sony Unveils Two 10MP Compacts
August 7, 2008 - Today Sony announced two new 10.1-megapixel cameras, the DSC-T700 and DSC-T77. Both feature Carl Zeiss lenses and touch-screen LCDs. The DSC-T700 (shown here), with a 4x optical zoom lens (35-140mm equivalent) is designed to serve as both camera and digital photo album, with an unusually high-resolution 921,000-dot-LCD touch-screen measuring 3.5 inches. The DSC-T77 is Sony’s thinnest camera, less than 5/8” (15mm) thick, yet still incorporates a 4x optical zoom lens. Fujifilm Announces Sociably Oriented Z200fd
July 31, 2008 – Fujifilm today announced the FinePix Z200fd, a fashionably slender 10-megapixel camera that introduces two new variants on face detection technology: Couple Timer, which automatically shoots when two faces come close together, and Group Timer mode, which lets you specify the number of faces required to trip the shutter, allowing the photographer plenty of time to get into the shot. The FinePix Z200fd will be available in four colors (black, silver, red and pink) in September, selling for $299.95.

Pentax Adds Optio E60

Casio Offers Skinny Body, Long Zoom
July 14, 2008 - Casio total announced the EXILIM Zoom EX-Z150, offering a 4x optical zoom in a wafer-thin .79-inch body. The camera is pocket-size petite (3.81 inches wide, 2.26 inches tall, weighing 4.44 oz.), yet still provides a 3-inch LCD, a first for the EXILIM line.

Kodak Intros Two New Cameras
July 10, 2008 - Kodak today announced two inexpensive cameras, the EASYSHARE Z1015 IS and the M1093, both featuring image stabilization and the company's Smart Capture feature that automatically recognizes scene characteristics and adjust camera settings accordingly. The Z1015 IS is a 10-megapixel model with a 15x optical zoom lens starting at a wide 28mm. The M1093, a compact 10-megapixel point-and-shoot, features a 3-inch LCD screen and a 3x zoom lens. New Nikon SB-900 Speedlight Promises Enhanced Power and Versatility
July 1, 2008 – Nikon today introduced its SB-900 Speedlight, offering higher light output, wider zoom range coverage and more advanced light-pattern control than its predecessor, the SB-800, which will be dropped from the product line.

The new flash, scheduled to ship in August for $499.95, offers three selectable light patterns: center-weighted, standard (same as the existing SB-800) and even, which is supposed to provide wide, even coverage tailored for group photography. Light output increases to 47ft./157.5m. at ISO 200. The SB-900 has the ability to move the flash tube and reflector system independently, allowing the system to tailor the light pattern to match the subject.

Ricoh Announces 12-Megapixel GX200
June 24, 2008 - Ricoh today announced the GX200, a 12-megapixel point-and-shoot with a 24mm super-wide-angle lens, manual control, RAW capture, and an optional removable tilting electronic viewfinder. The GX200 replaces the GX100, introduced in May 2007. It will be released in the UK in late July for £349.99, or £399.99 with the electronic viewfinder.
