Panasonic's Lumix DMC-G1, a compact 12-megapixel model priced at $800 with lens, delivers on most of the format's promises, with surprisingly fast auto focus, good lab scores and lots of photographic control. It is pricey, though.

Along with the announcement of the F40fd, Fujifilm launched two new entry-level models, the FinePix A800 and the A610 with a new Graphic User Interface. The 8.3-megapixel A800, as their highest resolution A-series camera, will retail for $179, while the 6.3-megapixel A610 will retail for $129. Both cameras are slated to hit retail shelves in March.

Casio today launched the latest addition to their Exilim line, the Exilim Hi-Zoom EX-V7. It is touted as “the world’s slimmest digital camera with a 7x optical zoom lens,” according to a Casio press release today. The EX-V7 comes packed with blur reduction technology and a new image processor. The 7.2 megapixel Casio EX-V7 will retail for $399.99 when it becomes available in March.
