March 21, 2007 - Amateur photographers will now be able to broadcast their juicy celebrity snapshots or breaking news captured with their cell phone cameras to the world - and get paid for them. Scoopt, the first image distributor to sell photos on the behalf of citizen journalists, was recently acquired by Getty Images, one of the largest providers of images for the media.

Las Vegas, Nevada, January 10th 2007- Could your next digital camera be a cell phone? The cell phone manufacturers would like that, but the US cell phone networks may not let it happen. Modern cell phones shoot at resolutions that dedicated digital still cameras reached only a couple of years ago: The Nokia N95 shoots 5-megapixel images, and Samsung has a cell phone that can shoot 10 megapixel images: the SCH-B600, which also includes a 3x optical zoom.

June 16, 2006 – Popular online photo sharing provider Flickr has recently encountered a wave of dissatisfied users looking to post and view screenshots of digital art images. Second Life, an online gaming community of 200,000 international participants, wishes to post screenshots and images of virtual humans on Flickr. Flickr’s capabilities, however, are limited to selective public viewing of non-photographic images, to the discontent of Second Life users.

May 24, 2006 – For photographers who need a little extra storage space for their vast amounts of files, photo sharing site Webshots launched another site yesterday to facilitate unlimited free uploads. AllYouCanUpload.com doesn’t require users to register, but does send users to Webshots for registration if they want to save the photos in albums.
