A new firmware update for the Canon EOS REBEL XS / 1000D DSLR is now available for download. Firmware Version 1.0.5 incorporates the following improvements.

A new version of the Nikon ViewNX browser is now available for download. Version 1.3.0 of the Nikon ViewNX offers the following changes:
- All image enhancement functions in the Quick Adjustment palette are now supported by both NRW and NEF RAW images. (Exposure Comp., White Balance, Picture Control*, Sharpness, Contrast, Brightness, Highlight/Shadow Protection, D-Lighting HS, Color Booster, Axial Color Aberration) *COOLPIX Picture Controls are not supported.
- Brightness can now be adjusted from the Quick Adjustment palette.
- Axial Color Aberration can now be adjusted from the Quick Adjustment palette.
- A Revert button has been added to the Quick Adjustment palette. This allows RAW (NEF, NRW) images enhanced with functions available in the Quick Adjustment palette to be restored to their original state.
- The Picture Control Recorded Value is now displayed in the Quick Adjustment palette.

Digital Light & Color have released the latest upgrade of Picture Window Pro. Picture Window 5.0 includes new editing features like Color Remap for changing selected colors and 2 and 3 Zone transformations, which lets you divide images by their tonality range. The upgrade now also includes a Raw Converter and a host of new automation and batch processing features.

Canon has released a new firmware update (Version 2.0.0.0) for the PowerShot SX1 IS camera. The update incorporates a RAW image recording function and once the camera is updated, the camera settings will be restored to default values; however, My Camera data will not be deleted. The Photoshop CS4 11.0.1 update is now available for download courtesy Adobe. Mac users can download it from here and Window users should head over here.
Highlights of the update:
A number of issues that could cause slow performance have been addressed.
• Pen barrel rotation with Wacom tablets now works correctly.
• Photoshop now correctly recognizes 3D textures edited by a plug-in.
• The quality of the results of Auto-Blend Layers (Stack Images) has been improved.
• A problem that could result in a crash when pasting formatted text has been fixed.
• A crash that could result from a corrupt font no longer occurs.

Firmware update 2.01 is also now available for the Nikon D3 DSLR. The upgrade makes it possible to view the Geodetic information in ViewNX Ver and also improves the continuous-servo AF performance.
Other improvements include:
- When the AF-ON button is pressed, the monitor turns off and a focus point can now be selected using the multi selector.
- Photo information displayed in full-frame playback has been modified as follows:
HI-, LO- has been changed to Hi, Lo
WARM TONE has been changed to WARM FILTER
COLOR CUSTOM has been changed to COLOR BALANCE
- Manamah, displayed in the Time zone options for the World time item in the setup menu, has been changed to Manama.
- An issue that, in extremely rare cases, resulted in noticeable black dots in images captured with Long exp. NR in the shooting menu set to On has been resolved.
- When the Speedlight SB-800 was mounted on the camera with flash mode set to Distance-priority manual (GN) mode, and then the exposure meters were reactivated or the camera was turned on, the distance information displayed on the SB-800 changed. This issue has been resolved.
- An issue that, in some rare cases, caused images captured with the following lenses to be under-exposed, has been resolved.

The newly releases firmware update 1.01 for the Nikon D700 makes the following improvements:
- When Custom Setting a4 Focus tracking with lock-on was set to Off in Continuous-servo AF, the lens drive moved gradually without achieving focus. This issue has been resolved.
- When the Speedlight SB-800 was mounted on the camera with flash mode set to Distance-priority manual (GN) mode, and then the exposure meters were reactivated or the camera was turned on, the distance information displayed on the SB-800 changed. This issue has been resolved.
- When the Multi-Power Battery Pack MB-D10 was mounted on the camera and an EN-EL3e battery inserted in the camera but no batteries inserted in the MB-D10, and SB-900 flash mode set to TTL auto flash mode, the flash mode changed to A mode when the exposure meters turned off or were reactivated, or the camera was turned off or on. This issue has been resolved. (This issue has also been resolved with SB-900 firmware Ver. 5.02.
- An issue that, in extremely rare cases, resulted in noticeable black dots in images captured with Long exp. NR in the shooting menu set to On has been resolved.
- Manamah, displayed in the Time zone options for the World time item in the setup menu, has been changed to Manama.

Photoshop Product Manager John Nack admitted in his blog that Adobe is developing a Photoshop CS4 update. This doesn’t surprise us since a number of CS4 users reported problems with the software and the Photoshop update will "improve the situation." Those experiencing problems can contact Adam Jerugim by email to test "a small pre-release program that we're opening to public volunteers."

The Canon RAW Codec 1.4.0 is now available for download here. Changes and corrections made from Canon RAW Codec 1.3

The SIGMA DP1 Firmware Ver.2.00 is now available for download. This firmware update should be applied to any DP1 camera that has firmware Ver.1.04 and lower and it brings the following benefits:
1. It is possible to allocate different functions to each of the Digital Zoom buttons.
2. When the image is magnified in the review display, the magnification ratio will appear.

Olympus, Panasonic and Sigma have joined hands to launch an online firmware update service that will let one update the firmware in interchangeable DSLR lenses compliant with the Four Thirds System Standard.
This new service makes it possible to update the firmware of a Panasonic lens on an Olympus camera or vice versa something which is practically unheard of in the photography industry. You can head over here for the updates.

Firmware version 1.02 for the FinePix F100fd digital camera is now available for download on the Fujifilm website.
The firmware update Ver.1.02 incorporates the following issues.
- Reduce "pinkish-colored band" which may be rarely found in the left side edge of image when the image is shot at ISO 400 or shot without flash on "NATURAL & FLASH MODE".
•Precaution
1. If firmware updating fails, the camera may no longer operate correctly in some cases.
Carefully read the notes provided here.
2. Always use the AC adapter when updating the firmware as a basic manner. Never turn the camera off or attempt to use any of the camera controls while the firmware is being overwritten.
3. Firmware updating requires approximately 20 seconds.
4. Once the firmware has been updated, the previous version cannot be restored.

Apple as promised by them last month has released Aperture 2.1 plug-in SDK , which is available as a free download from the Apple Developer Connection member site that can be accessed here. One needs to register at the website before downloading.
The Aperture 2.1 SDK provides protocol definitions for creating an Edit plug-in that lets you make your image processing software directly available to Aperture users. In particular, an Edit plug-in can:
* Display a custom interface
* Request editable versions of an image.
* Add metadata to images.Â
* Manipulate image data for images in the Aperture library. A
* Import result images back into the Aperture library

Nikon has released an update for its Capture NX, which now includes support for RAW images captured with the D3.The Capture NX 1.3.3 is available as a free downloads to registered users.
Capture NX 1.3.3
• Support for Raw images captured with the D3 (A and B firmware v1.10 and later) and the "Vignette Control" option enabled, has been added.
• New "Artist, Copyright and Vignette Control" items have been added to the Camera Settings palette. In addition, the categories displayed in the Camera Settings palette have been changed from "File / Shooting Info / Picture Control / Flash and GPS" to "File Info / Shooting Info / Picture Control and GPS". Items in each category have been modified.
• An issue that caused an error to occur with some systems when opening an image saved in TIFF format with LZW compression has been resolved.
• When a folder containing a Dust Off Reference photo was selected from the Dust Off Settings Palette, accessed from "1.Base Adjustments / Raw Adjustments / Dust Off" , for use with a Raw image captured with the D1x or D1H, an alert stating that "No Dust Off reference photo was present" would display and the Reference Photo could not be used. This issue has been resolved.
• When a white balance settings file, saved with "fine-tuning" of the "Calculate Automatically" option in the White Balance settings palette, accessed from "1. Base Adjustments / Raw Adjustments /White Balance," was applied to another image, the white balance settings were not reflected. This issue has been resolved.

Apple has released Aperture™ 2.1, which features new architecture enabling third-party software plug-ins. The open plug-in architecture will let one use specialized third party imaging software right from within Aperture.
The new version includes; Apple-developed plug-in, Dodge & Burn, which adds brush-based tools for dodge (lighten), burn (darken), contrast, saturation, sharpen and blur. Over the coming months, third party software developers will deliver image-editing plug-ins for localized editing, filters and effects, noise analysis and reduction, fisheye lens correction and more.
“The image quality in Aperture 2 has won over the most demanding photographers,” said Rob Schoeben, Apple’s vice president of Applications Product Marketing. “Now, thanks to our open plug-in architecture, users can access an entire industry’s worth of imaging expertise without ever leaving Aperture.”
