by Tanya Palta

DigitalTrends reviewed the Pentax K20D DSLR and straight away liked it for its weather-resistant body. The K20D may not be the fastest DSLR on the block but redeems itself by producing good images and by using AA Batteries. Calling it a “perfect camera” for the amateur photographer, the K20D is given a thumbs up by DigitalTrends.

Imaging Resource Reviews the Pandigital PanTouch Photo Frame

added on 2008-05-12 06:38:00
by Tanya Palta

Imaging Resource recently reviewed the Pandigital PanTouch Photo Frame that comes equipped with a patent-pending touch sensor to make the whole navigating experience more intuitive.

On playing around with the frame, the reviewer found out that set up was quick and easy. The interface is responsive and the slide show and movie mode very user-friendly.  However the frame had some minor irritants too. Viewing angle is a disappointment and the buttons on the remote control were a little stiff.

Verdict:
“The more we used the frame, the more we liked it. Slide shows replaced the pass-the-camera around routine after an event but the Movie mode was even more compelling. We could download video from some relative's blog and share it on the Pandigital frame. Even the Calendar mode amused us for a while”.

Cnet Reviews Pentax K200D

added on 2008-05-11 03:55:00
by Tanya Palta

The Pentax K200D DSLR has been reviewed by Cnet and feels its ideal for old-timer Pentax users or those have old Pentax lenses lying around. The entry- level 10.2-megapixel dSLR is compatible with most Pentax lenses and has been built ergonomically.  The Optical image stabilization is a thoughtful addition however they don’t like omission of features such as live view and face detection.

Conclusion:
“The Pentax K200D is a straightforward entry-level dSLR. For each higher-spec flourish, it lacks a more obvious consumer-friendly function like live view and face detection. But SD cards and AA batteries keep things simple. We prefer the controls of the Olympus E-510 over the K200D's somewhat clunky operation, but compatibility with older Pentax lenses may give it the edge for some people over the Four Thirds lens range.”

Infosync World Reviews Olympus SP-570UZ

added on 2008-05-07 05:41:00
by Tanya Palta

The Olympus SP-570UZ may not be a DSLR however it’s clearly patterned on one. The folks over at Infosync World took the SP-570UZ for a spin and had mixed feelings about it. Garnering a rating of 73%, the Olympus SP-570UZ is a “good” prosumer camera, which includes an impressive 20x, zoom and image stabilization.

The body is a winner too and the interface was surprisingly intuitive. However the camera is not without faults. It only support for xD cards, the imaging sensor is a little too small and the camera also produces fringing and distortion at certain settings.

Conclusion:
“The only thing hampering the SP-570UZ from a sure-fire recommendation is its so-so, point-and-shoot sized imaging-sensor, which performs well for its class but undermines the camera's prosumer appeal. Nevertheless, if you're looking for a functional bridge between a compact and a DSLR, the SP-570UZ could fit the bill.”

Steve's Digicam Reviews Nikon D300

added on 2008-05-05 03:11:00
by Tanya Palta

Steve from Steve’s Digicam reviewed the old favorurite Nikon D300 and as expected the camera impressed with its performance. Weighing around y 3 - 3 1/2 pounds, the D300 has a solid body, which will appease the professional photographer. Features like; a self cleaning sensor, Scene Recognition metering system, ISO speeds up to 6400 with boost (in 1/3 stop increments), new image processing algorithm make the D300 a force to reckon with.

The Nikon D300 is not for everyone and can be a little over-whelming for first time DSLR users.  Built-in flash was effective and D300 offers five flash sync modes: Front-Curtain Sync (normal sync), Red-Eye Reduction, Red-Eye Reduction with Slow Sync, Slow Sync and Rear-Curtain Sync.

Conclusion:
Nikon's new D300 further raises the bar in the enthusiasts’ dSLR category. Offering a wealth of features, plenty of customization options, 12.3 megapixels of resolution, upgraded 51-point Autofocus System, a fast frame rate (when using a recommend 266x CF card) and excellent image quality, this model represents Nikon's best effort so far in this market niche. “

T3 Reviews Fujifilm Finepix S100FS

added on 2008-05-05 03:06:00
by Tanya Palta

T3 decided to pay some attention to the Fujifilm Finepix S100FS and were mighty impress by its super zoom lens. The Face detection feature also worked like a charm and even the red-eye removal technology was found to be objective.

The Fujifilm Finepix S100FS with its 14X zoom can handle a number of photography situations and is ideal for those who want to move away from compact camera but don’t want to deal with complicated DSLRs. The only gripe T3 has with the fast shooter were its chunky body and weak viewfinder.

Conclusion:
“Fujifilm really, really wants to make an affordable and simple bridge clicker. Come back when they do”.

Digital Camera Review on Canon Rebel XSi DSLR

added on 2008-05-04 04:22:00
by Tanya Palta

The Canon Rebel XSi DSLR or the Canon EOS 450D was recently reviewed by the website DigitalCameraReview. The XSi has a number of improvements when compared to the 350D and takes care of small annoyances, which were present in the previous models. DCR gives brownie points to the 450D for its Low-noise sensor, great image quality, intuitive interface and the AF system, which they think, is “best”.However the DSLR has its faults too. DCR is of the opinion that Canon should have worked on the ergonomics a little as the camera doesn’t feel very nice in the hands. It’s also of the opinion that the kit lens leaves much to be desired.

Photo Net Reviews Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III DSLR

added on 2008-03-25 04:46:00
by Tanya Palta

Philip Greenspun from Photo.net puts the workhorse Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III DSLR on the spotlight and comes out highly impressed. Calling it “Remarkable”, the DLSR is a testament to the engineering prowess of Canon.

The body is weatherproof and the camera accusing to Greenspun manages to produce excellent and accurate images. The 1Ds Mark III is Canon's most durable body and can also be set to write images to two memory cards simultaneously. The EOS 1Ds Mark III has a fast processor, massive internal memory, and an impressive high-resolution 3" screen too.

Conclusion:
“Do you need a weatherproofed camera that is strong enough to drive nails while producing the world's best image quality? If so, the 1Ds is a bargain. If not, the Canon EOS 5D, $2099 (review) is a better value.I never wanted a 1Ds. Now I do. But probably I'll wait for the revision of the EOS 5D.”

Cnet Reviews Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III

added on 2008-02-27 04:35:00
by Tanya Palta

The Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III is made of stuff photography nuts dream off and has a price tag that makes it untouchable for many. This Pro camera was tested out by the lucky folks over at Cnet who give it an impressive 9 out of 10 rating.

With a whopping 21.1-megapixel resolution, the Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III was found to be truly “ground-breaking”.  Image noise was minimum even at high ISOs and the live view shooting makes it extremely intuitive. The pro-level build-quality is another reason to give the camera additional brownie points.

An excerpt :
“The Canon 1Ds Mark III isn't for everyone. You really have to have a need for a lot of pixels to warrant buying one instead of the 1D Mark III, which offers very similar image quality, an extra stop of sensitivity, and double the burst speed for thousands fewer dollars. For my style of shooting, I'd opt for the 1D Mark III and spend the savings on some primo lenses. That shouldn't diminish the 1Ds Mark III in any way though. It is a unique imaging powerhouse and that can't be denied”.

Canon 1D Mark III Reviewed by Photo Review

added on 2008-01-23 05:47:00
by Tanya Palta

The critically acclaimed Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III was reviewed by the website Photo Review. The reviewer is quick to point out that the DSLR is not everyone’s cup of tea as its heavy and complex to operate. Serious photographers who require top-notch performance and extensive adjustability should only touch this one.

Canon 1D Mark III Reviewed by Lawrence Ripsher

added on 2008-01-07 11:16:00
by Tanya Palta

British Photographer Lawrence Ripsher reviewed the Canon 1D Mark III in great depth on his blog which can be accessed here.  The DSLR managed to replace the photographer’s 5D and performed exceptionally well in low light conditions.

In bright sunlight using AI Servo, the performance at times faltered however most of the times the images were “excellent”. Ripsher calls the Canon 1D Mark III “a complex beast” and warns that to get the best results one needs to invest time and learn by trial and error.

PDN Reviews Nikon D300

added on 2007-12-26 14:47:00
by Tanya Palta

The guys at PDN spent some quality time with the 12.3 megapixel Nikon D300 and the prosumer camera as expected manages to impress. According to the review, performance is spot on, the 3D tracking AF system “responsive and the feature set “sophisticated”.

However the D300 is not devoid of faults as one also found image noise in higher resolution and some of the images were found to be too “soft”.

Vnunet Reviews Canon EOS 40D

added on 2007-12-26 05:38:00
by Tanya Palta

The folks at Vnunet recently reviewed the Canon EOS 40D with the £800 17-55mm lens. The camera scored brownie points for its solid body, its bright viewfinder and its image quality, which was found to be “excellent”.  The interface was intuitive and the LCD Live View was found to be a great addition. However the reviewer is quick to point out that the plus £ 1000 tag can be its Achilles Heel.

DP Review Reviews The Sony Alpha 700

added on 2007-12-19 16:58:00
by Richard Baguley

The Sony Alpha 700 is the latest SLR to fall under the spotlight at DP Review, with their conclusions generally being favorable. They praised the image quality and the low noise, as well as the color that the camera captured. General performance and handling were also praised, but they were less impressed with the RAW shooting (the Alpha 700 applies noise reduction before it save the RAW image, which kind of defeats the point of shooting in RAW) and the ISO range; they claim that the sensor has a base sensitivity of 200 ISO, which means that running it at 100 ISO isn’t going to give you the best image quality.

Pentax K10D Review Now Live

added on 2007-12-14 11:36:00
by Richard Baguley

We've just published our review of the K10D, the latest prosumer digital SLR from Pentax. you can read the full review here, but our overall conclusion is that the K10D is a decent choice for the user who wants a digital SLR with sensor shift image stabilization on a budget; priced at under $650 for the holiday push, the K10D is good value. But you shouldn't expect cutting edge performance;  our test images had good color and decent dynamic range, but lacked detail.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-L10 Reviewed by DP Review

added on 2007-12-14 10:21:00
by Richard Baguley

DP Review have just published their review of the Lumix DMC-L10, the latest Four Thirds digital SLR from Panasonic. They think it's a big improvement on the L1 (which we reviewed here); the handling is improved, the live view (where you can get a live preview on the LCD screen) works well and the 10.1 effective megapixel sensor captured good quality images, especially shooting in RAW.  But the reviewer Simon Joinson thought that the L10 was rather expensive (at $1299 with the kit lens), and was lacking the customizability features that high-end digital SLR users expect.

DPreview Reviews the Olympus E-410

added on 2007-11-27 10:00:00
by Tanya Palta

DPreview took the Olympus E-410 for a test drive and gives it a thumbs up. The Olympus  E-410 impressed them with its overall performance, its price tag, its effective sensor-shift image stabilization and its lightweight body. However the camera comes equipped with a viewfinder, which they found “Small”, and images at ISO 400 and higher were found to be noisy.

“It's great to see Olympus finally introducing models that deliver on the Four-Thirds promise of compact, affordable, high quality digital SLRs, and the E-510 (along with its ultra compact sibling the E-410) show that the system has far more potential than many observers give it credit for, particularly in this 'entry-level to mid-range enthusiast' sector of the market.”

Panasonic Lumix DMC-L10 Review

added on 2007-11-24 09:00:00
by Tanya Palta

Photography Blog got their hands on the Panasonic Lumix DMC-L10 DSLR, which seeks to make a place for itself in a world obsessed with Canon and Nikon. The DSLR strength lies in its Leica Kit lens, free-angle LCD screen and advanced Live View mode.

However the Leica kit is also its Achilles heel since the L10 becomes an expensive camera for beginners. However if you have some extra change lying around then the reviewer “highly recommends” the L10.
