Adobe Pixel Bender Now Available

added on 2008-11-19 03:42:00
by Tanya Palta

The Adobe Pixel Bender plug-in is now available as a free download. According to Adobe, the plug-in provides “automatic runtime optimization on heterogeneous hardware" to run Photoshop filters faster.

Says Adobe:

"Pixel Bender is best suited for the kind of algorithms in which processing of any pixel has minimum dependence on the values of other pixels. For example, you can efficiently write a kernel to manipulate brightness of the image because brightness of each pixel can be changed independently. You would not want to use Pixel Bender to compute a histogram, because a histogram requires the values of all the pixels in an image."

Photography Blog Reviews Viveza

added on 2008-06-21 05:40:00
by Tanya Palta

Viveza by Nikon was reviewed by the Photography Blog and they highly recommend it.  The plug-in is genuinely easy to use and makes post processing much easier and is compatible with almost all imaging software’s like Photoshop Elements, and Apple Aperture.

The U-Point feature in Viveza is a nifty addition to make selective adjustments.  Another point where Viveza scores is its price as Photography Blog think it’s a value for money product.

Conclusion:
“Viveza only does one thing, but it does it better than any tool I've ever used. If you spend a lot of time in Photoshop or Aperture editing your images, you'll find Viveza will quickly become an integral part of your workflow, and it will repay the cost of purchase in no time at all.”

Section 8 of the Photoshop Express Raises Concerns

added on 2008-03-28 02:09:00
by Tanya Palta

Adobe Express is winning all the accolades and even impressed fellow DCI writer Jennifer Nelson whose comprehensive review can be read here.  However Section 8 of the Photoshop Express terms of use has raised some concerns about the content as it reads like this:

“with respect to Your Content that you submit or make available for inclusion on publicly accessible areas of the Services, you grant Adobe a worldwide, royalty-free, nonexclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, and fully sub licensable license to use, distribute, derive revenue or other remuneration from, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, publicly perform and publicly display such Content (in whole or in part) and to incorporate such Content into other Materials or works in any format or medium now known or later developed."

But looks like Adobe plans to revise the terms and assured blogger John Nack who received this following email from the Express team:

"We've heard your concerns about the terms of service for Photoshop Express beta.  We reviewed the terms in context of your comments - and we agree that it currently implies things we would never do with the content.  Therefore, our legal team is making it a priority to post revised terms that are more appropriate for Photoshop Express users.  We will alert you once we have posted new terms.  Thank you for your feedback on Photoshop Express beta and we appreciate your input."
