Dpreview has reviewed the Sigma 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM lens and have mixed feelings about it. While the 'do-it-all' travel lens does come recommended however at times the lens was a sub-par performer especially when it came to optical stabilization.T he F6.3 maximum aperture at 200mm also compromises autofocus performance according to the reviewer.
Says the reviewer:
“Overall, then, this isn't a lens for pixel-peepers who above all else demand critical corner-to-corner sharpness in every shot. But for more normal users looking for a versatile, all-in-one travel lens within a budget”.

Dpreview tested out the Sigma 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM lens which was announced this March. The lens performed exceptionally well as vignetting was hardly noticeable even in wide apertures. The solid build quality was another area where the lens managed to impress the reviewer. However the Sigma 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM lens isn’t perfect since it won’t be available in a Four-Thirds mount and according Dpreview it’s quite heavy for a 50mm F1.4.
“It’s important to understand that this lens is currently very much at the start of its product lifecycle, and if the price drops to a level much closer to the other 50mm F1.4s, then it will be quite simply a steal.”

The Sigma SD14 v1.08 firmware is now available for download and offers the following fixes to the SD14 DSLR users.
1. Corrects the occasional phenomenon of an image recorded in RAW format appearing to have an unnaturally large file size.
2. Corrects the rarely occurring error of camera freeze and image recording failure when shooting continuously or if the shutter button is pressed when the CF Card Busy Light is blinking.
3. When Bulb Mode is used Sigma Photo Pro now displays the actual shutter speed used in the exposure rather than just showing the word “Bulb”.

Carl Rytterfalk Fotografi reviewed the Sigma AML-1 close up lens and even posted a video review, which we recommend watching. The close up lens works great with the DP1 and the lens was found to be bright too. While the lens does suffer from slight negative distortion in corners, overall it manages to impress.
Excerpt from conclusion:
“For movies and portraits such as the ones above it’s a wonderful solution and gives you new views - plus that the extreme OOF is perfect for videos.”

The Sigma DP1 digital compact camera was tested out by Camera Labs and as expected the reviewer gave the DP1 a thumbs up. A compact camera with a DSLR sensor, the DP1 produces detailed images and has a sharp lens which performs.
However according to the reviewer, the DP1 isn’t a low light camera and offer only a maximum ISO setting of 800. The camera also has a tendency to produce image noise and the QVGA movie mode disappointing.
Verdict:
“The Sigma DP1 is certainly a unique camera and once again achieves the important goal of equipping a compact body with a DSLR-sized sensor. Use the camera in the right conditions and it really shines, delivering images with an astonishing degree of detail and sharpness across the entire frame.”
