The Pretec 666X CF card which claims to be the “world’s fastest CF card” was unveiled at PMA 2009. The card offers 100MB/s transfer speeds and is housed in a rugged casing. Pretec 666X CF card will start sampling by April from capacities of 4GB to 64GB.

The Panasonic LUMIX DMC-GH1 is a new Micro Four Thirds System camera that also supports high definition 1080/24p or s720/60p HD (High Definition) movies in AVCHD format. The GH1 promises fantastic image performance thanks to its 12.1-megapixel high-speed Live MOS sensor and the on board Venus Engine HD image processor. The camera supports both auto and manual exposure modes and comes with a 14-140mm zoom kit lens.

Samsung Digital Imaging at PMA is exhibiting a concept camera that offers Live View photo composition. The “hybrid” features an APS-C sensor format that one finds in most DSLR’s and features an electronic viewfinder. The first model of the NX series should be available by the second half of 2009.

The SIGMA 10-20mm F3.5 EX DC HSM lens was unveiled at the PMA 2009. The lens has a maximum aperture of F3.5 throughout the entire zoom range and has a wide angle of view from 102.4 degrees. The on board ELD (Extraordinary Low Dispersion) glass elements and a SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass element provide excellent correction of color aberration.

The Sony Cyber-shot HX1 which got unveiled at the PMA 2009 features a 9.1 megapixel ‘Exmor’ CMOS sensor and a quality G Lens with 20x optical zoom and 28mm wide angle. It also comes equipped with 3-inch LCD, which offers 230,000-dot resolution. Other features include; Clear Photo LCD Plus technology, BIONZ processor and Intelligent Scene Recognition.

Linda Barger, a spokesperson for Sony told online magazine PDN that the imaging giants have no plans to release a dSLR prior to or during the PMA show in Las Vegas in March. Barger also revealed that Sony would be "following up with digital SLRs," this summer.

Both the new 32 and 16GB SDHC™ cards and the 8GB SDHC Plus card offer read and write speeds of 15MB/sec making them perfect for the high-end user.
The 32GB Ultra II SDHC card is abale to store 8,000 high-resolution pictures or up to 40 hours of video and comes bundled with the SanDisk MicroMate™ USB 2.0 Reader. In a press release Pentax announced its plans to exhibit 3 digital-SLR-exclusive interchangeable lenses at the PMA 2008 and Photo Imaging Expo 2008 that is to be held from March 19 to 22 at Tokyo Big Sight in Japan.
The 3 lenses are still under-development and are tentatively titled smc PENTAX-DA 55mm F1.4 SDM, smc PENTAX-DA 60-250mm F4 ED [IF] SDM and smc PENTAX-DA 17-70mm F4 [IF] SDM. For quick over-view of the lenses click the more link.

Pentax apart from the K20D also announced the Pentax K200D, the successor to the K100D. Sporting a 10 MP resolution, the K200D comes equipped with a 2.7-inch LCD screen and a built-in Shake Reduction system.
Since the Pentax K200D has a Pentax K-mount bayonet, virtually any Pentax lens can be used with it. One also comes across a new exposure mode on the dial: a Sensitivity Priority mode that will show up as “Sv.” Via this users can select the ISO and let the camera automatically choose the other exposure settings.
The Pentax K200D will retail for £579.99 / $799.95 with the new 18-55 mm II kit lens and will be available in March 2008.

With Canon and Olympus hogging all the limelight Pre-PMA, how could Samsung stay behind? The company also found this week appropriate to announce their new GX-20 DSLR. For the uninitiated, the GX-20 is the successor to Samsung’s GX-10 and has been equipped with a proprietary 14.6-megapixel CMOS sensor.
The Samsung GX-20 supports the Samsung Schneider D-XENON lenses, the Pentax KAF2, KAF, and KA mount lenses. The camera includes a dust removal system, supports RAW, has a max ISO sensitivity of ISO 6400 and features a Live View LCD. The Samsung GX-20 will be available in March for $1399.95.

The Canon EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM lens claims to be the “the world's longest focal length lens with an Optical Image Stabilizer system”. So if you want to catch a glimpse of this high-performing lens then do make a stopover at the PMA tradeshow (booth E101) at the Las Vegas Convention Center, January 31 to February 2.
The telephoto lens is part of the company’s professional L-Series and has been exclusively designed for the EOS SLR cameras. The lens weighs around 4500g/9.9 lbs due to the use of a lightweight magnesium alloy lens barrel construction and a super-telephoto optical system featuring 2 fluorite elements as well as Super UD and UD glass elements.

FotoNation yesterday announced the “FaceTime,” technology that will help in capturing self-portraits when using digital cameras or camera phones. FaceTime will debut at the 2008 Photo Marketing Association (PMA) trade show in Las Vegas. The technology is offered as an add-on module to the FotoNation FaceTracker™ technology and is available for immediate licensing.
“Sooner or later, every photographer wants to be part of a photo they are composing; and until now, it has always been a cumbersome effort. We believe that FaceTime is the first new technology that brings a pragmatic solution to self-portraits,” said Eran Steinberg, CEO of FotoNation, Inc.
