PC Mag Reviews Olympus E-3

added on 2008-04-04 04:13:00
by Tanya Palta

PC Mag reviews the Olympus E-3, which they feel can hold it own against giants like the Nikon D300 and Canon EOS 40D. The E-3 impresses with its comprehensive feature set and comes highly recommended from PC Mag.

When it comes to image quality, the E-3 doesn’t disappoint and the weatherproof, dustproof, and splash proof body is just the cherry on the topping.  However the ergonomics was found to be less than intuitive and accessing some basic features can be a little tiring.

Excerpt from the review:
“Although it can't quite match the Nikon D300 in image quality or feature set, I have no problem recommending the E-3 as a slightly less-expensive alternative in the semi-pro D-SLR category.”

DPreview Reviews Olympus E-3

added on 2008-02-22 03:40:00
by Tanya Palta

Another website to put the spotlight on the Olympus E-3 is DPreview who are of the opinion that the E-3 is suitable for only experienced users and not for those who don’t go beyond the automatic mode. The camera doesn’t have the most intuitve user interface and even the control layout is not much to write about.

However all is not lost as DPreview calls it a worthy successor to the original E-1. The pro-grade weatherproof body and a brighter and bigger viewfinder are some of the highlights of the camera.

The folks over at Cnet took the Olympus E-3 for a spin and the camera managed to get an impressive 8 out of 10 rating. The E-3 doesn’t disappoint when it comes to image quality, its, flip-and-twist LCD, the onboard wireless flash controller and the dust- and splash-proof body. However according to the reviewer, the E-3 falters on issues like ergonomics, software and even the LCD, which was found to be “smallish”.

The E-3 won accolades for its image performance and the level of user input is found to be incredible. In fact Biofos feels that the E-3 is the best E-Series camera out there.

Luminous Landscape Reviews Olympus E3

added on 2008-01-21 13:44:00
by Tanya Palta

The folks over at  Luminous Landscape took the Olympus E3 for a test drive and looks like the E3 failed to leave much of a mark. The major drawback of the E3 was found to be its ergonomics.  According to the review all important controls are positioned awkwardly, the buttons are found to be too small and the layout “counter-intuitive”.

However all is not lost and the E3 does redeem itself when it comes to durability. E3 may just be the best choice for those shooting in harsh conditions and its strength lies in areas of auto focus, implementation of live view, dust reduction and environmental sealing.
