Dev Hardware has reviewed the Nikon D700 and the publication found the DSLR extremely appealing. Apart from a comprehensive feature set and advance features like D-Lighting system, the camera also excelled when it came to image quality. The well thought out interface and controls won’t be daunting to an amateur photographer and the magnesium alloy body ensures that the camera remains protected from wear and tear.

The newly releases firmware update 1.01 for the Nikon D700 makes the following improvements:
- When Custom Setting a4 Focus tracking with lock-on was set to Off in Continuous-servo AF, the lens drive moved gradually without achieving focus. This issue has been resolved.
- When the Speedlight SB-800 was mounted on the camera with flash mode set to Distance-priority manual (GN) mode, and then the exposure meters were reactivated or the camera was turned on, the distance information displayed on the SB-800 changed. This issue has been resolved.
- When the Multi-Power Battery Pack MB-D10 was mounted on the camera and an EN-EL3e battery inserted in the camera but no batteries inserted in the MB-D10, and SB-900 flash mode set to TTL auto flash mode, the flash mode changed to A mode when the exposure meters turned off or were reactivated, or the camera was turned off or on. This issue has been resolved. (This issue has also been resolved with SB-900 firmware Ver. 5.02.
- An issue that, in extremely rare cases, resulted in noticeable black dots in images captured with Long exp. NR in the shooting menu set to On has been resolved.
- Manamah, displayed in the Time zone options for the World time item in the setup menu, has been changed to Manama.
Windows users can download the update from here and Mac users need to gohere.

Steve Morgenstern from DCI reviewed the Nikon D700 and in spite of its 3K price tag, recommends it. The fact that the D700 has all the features of the high-end Nikon D3 makes the D700 a winner. The stellar image quality, the high-resolution 920,00-pixel LCD, lack of noise and fast and accurate autofocus also makes the D700 an excellent buy.
Conclusion: “Beyond this marquee capability, the high-resolution 920,00-pixel LCD made us smile every time we reviewed a photo we'd just taken, and even made Live View mode (not an SLR favorite feature around here) a lot more attractive. The Nikon auto focus system continues to deliver both the speed and sharpness we've learned to expect”.

The Nikon D700 which is a cutting-edge amalgamation of the Nikon D300 and D3 was reviewed by the folks over at Imaging-Resource. Image quality was found to be stellar and so was the ISO performance especially at higher ISOs. The Active D-lighting feature was able to improve shadow detail just as promised by Nikon and the dust reduction system was effective too. Some of D700’s turn offs were its big body and the lack of in-body image stabilization.

Camera Labs reviewed the Nikon D700 DSLR recently and were highly impressed with its image quality. The D700’s body was found to be solid and ergonomically designed and according to the reviewer, the camera performed exceptionally well at higher ISOs.
Conclusion:
“So with the D700 Nikon further broadens its impressive DSLR line-up and continues to throw down gauntlet after gauntlet to Canon, making its arch rival look complacent in some categories. Canon simply has to respond, but until then there’s few independent observers who wouldn’t consider Nikon now having number one billing in DSLRs.”
