Photozone ReviewsNikkor AF-S 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR DX Lens

added on 2008-03-20 04:10:00
by Tanya Palta

The Nikkor AF-S 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR DX may have certain shortcomings however according to the reviewer at Photozone, its still a good buy. The lens is called the  “best DX standard zoom lens in Nikon mount to date” and also produces consistent sharp images.

The Nikkor AF-S 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR DX however suffers from a slow max. aperture and Vignetting is noticeable at 16mm @ f/3.5. While the build quality is  quite good it can’t be compared to professional grade quality.

Here are the ratings:

Optical Quality:               4 Stars
Mechanical Quality:       3 Stars

Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S VR DX Lens Review by Dpreview

added on 2008-02-29 04:00:00
by Tanya Palta

Another lens that was tested out by Dpreview was the Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S VR DX NIKKOR. The lens thanks to its versatility and performance earned a recommended tag from the reviewer who feels that its deserves a place in every DX-shooter's bag.

The 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G AF-S VR is seen as an worthy upgrade to the Nikon's kit lens as it has an effective VR system, good optical quality and is also capable of great macro performance. However the lens is susceptible to flare in strongly backlit situations and the manual focus ring is only just about functional.

Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED AF-S VR DX Review by Dpreview

added on 2008-02-29 03:55:00
by Tanya Palta

Andy Westlake from Dpreview puts the spotlight on the Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED AF-S VR DX Nikkor this week. However the super zoom lens failed to leave a mark on the reviewer who calls it 'jack of all trades, master of none'.

Westlake is quick to point out that the Nikon 18-200mm does make a decent travel lens and has a very effective vibration reduction system however the lens is not without faults. Images often were found to be soft  especially at 135mm and the close-up performance too disappoints. Overall the lens is recommended only if money is a constraint or to those who understand its limitations.
