DCI’s Tim Barribeau took the Kodak Easyshare Z980, which was spotted at CES, for a test drive.  The build quality of the camera wasn’t impressive and the omission of manual white balance surprising. However the camera did win brownie points for its 24x zoom, its 12-megapixel resolution and for supporting RAW.

Kodak and Wal-Mart Launch Recycling Program

added on 2008-02-28 11:02:00
by Tanya Palta

Kodak and Wal-mart have collaborated to launch a national program to recycle used materials from in-store picture kiosks in the US. The program will run in about 4,100 Wal-Mart stores and Sam’s Clubs in the U.S. that operate KODAK Picture Kiosks, and is expected to annually recycle 2 million pounds of thermal printer ribbon, spools and cartridges. That amount is equal to the weight of approximately six, 250-passenger commercial airliners.

“We are thrilled to be working with our longtime partner, Wal-Mart, on this important sustainability initiative,” said Nicki Zongrone, General Manager Retail Systems Solutions and Vice President of Eastman Kodak Company. “Kodak has a long record of responsible behavior related to environmental issues, and this initiative is a world’s first in the photo kiosk business. Together, Wal-Mart and Kodak are helping to make the planet a better place for our children.”

“Our partnership with Kodak to recycle materials from the photo kiosks in our stores is another step towards achieving our zero waste goal,” said Lori Kumar, divisional merchandise manager for Wal-Mart. “This initiative complements a number of other recycling programs in our photo department, including the recycling of silver, one-time use camera bodies and film canisters.”

Kodak COLORFLOW Solution

by Tanya Palta

Kodak in a press release announced that they would release their new COLORFLOW Software solution at drupa 2008. The Kodak COLORFLOW solution seeks to achieve integrated control across all devices—monitors, scanners, halftone and inkjet proofers, and digital and conventional presses.

This will help professionals to reduce costs by ensuring that critical color control elements—curves, profiles, and spot recipes—are used together correctly. COLORFLOW Software will be available both as a standalone product, as well as an integrated solution within KODAK PRINERGY Workflow System Version 5.0, which will also be introduced at drupa.

“With COLORFLOW Software, users can meet the print buyers’ expectations while eliminating the hidden costs that can reduce profitability,” said Arjen Van Der Meulen, Director of Color, Kodak’s Graphic Communications Group. “KODAK COLORFLOW Software accomplishes this by making certain that color control tools work together correctly and in harmony, while reducing the number of remakes, approvals and press runs required to establish accurate color. KODAK COLORFLOW Software provides a complete, color management solution.”
