Yahoo Photos to Shut Down

Yahoo PhotosMay 4, 2007 – Yahoo Inc. yesterday announced it is shutting down Yahoo Photos, its online photo-sharing website, leaving billions of photos open to be transferred to other websites, according to a Reuters report today.

Next month, Yahoo Photos' millions of users will be notified about alternative options, including competing services such as PhotoBucket, Kodak Gallery, Shutterfly, and Snapfish. Users uploaded about 2 billion photos to Yahoo Photos last year.

With the termination of Yahoo Photos, the company plans to push Flickr, its more profitable online photo-sharing website. Last quarter, Yahoo Photos shares dropped nearly 6 percent in the U.S, while Flickr grew 4.5 percent, according to Reuters.
