Webshots and dotPhoto Offer Wireless Photo Sharing Software
March 22, 2006 – Webshots.com and dotPhoto.com announced a deal yesterday that syncs their systems with enabled camera phones. dotPhoto announced pictavision for Webshots, a wireless application that allows users to easily upload images from camera phones to Webshots. The pictavision for Webshots program will be available from 20 mobile carriers starting in April. "pictavision for Webshots unlocks the full potential of camera phones with the ease-of-use consumers have been demanding, coupled with access to the world’s largest collection of online photos, and broadest selection of photo services," said Jiren N. Parikh, Vice President of Wireless for dotPhoto, in yesterday’s press release. "We’re thrilled to help Webshots bring their pioneering photo content to wireless, and revolutionize how people use their camera phones."
When users snap shots on their camera phone, the pictavision program automatically uploads them to Webshots, which allows users to create their own web sites or blogs with the photos. From there, users can share or print their pictures – all via the mobile phone of course.
"Camera phones are at the forefront of wireless and Web convergence, and we’re looking forward to leveraging this convergence with the opportunities a cross-platform application like pictavision for Webshots can provide our users," said Amy McDonough, director of services for Webshots. The web site has more than 350 million photos and almost 20 million monthly visitors.
