Underwater RAW Camera Launches
July 6, 2007 – Underwater imaging equipment manufacturer Sea&Sea this week announced a new underwater camera system, the DX-1G. With claims that it is the "world’s most advanced compact underwater digital camera system," according to a July 2nd company press release, this 10.01-megapixel DX-1G camera has RAW shooting capabilities and comes with an external waterproof casing. The Sea&Sea DX-1G has a suggested retail price of $1049 and is expected to ship in the U.S. in early August.Founded in 1972, Sea&Sea produces underwater camera accessories including casing for Canon, Fuji, and Nikon DSLR bodies. The latest camera is geared for all types of photographers from beginners to professionals, according to the release. The DX-1G system carries a 10.01 megapixel compact camera with a black polycarbonate exterior casing. Equipped with a shifting CCD image sensor, the camera is capable of vibration correction, as Sea&Sea calls it. The camera can shoot in 4:3, 3:2, and 1:1 aspect ratio as RAW files, processed as Adobe’s DNG photo format.
The DX-1G is fitted with a 3x optical zoom lens with a focal range of 24-72mm in traditional 35mm format and possesses a 2.5-inch LCD monitor. The camera also features manual controls, including an aperture priority function and video capabilities at 640x480 and 320x240 at a 30fps and 15fps rate.

The DX-1G competes with other camera manufacturers and third party underwater equipment companies. Olympus currently has a product line of waterproof housing for its DSLR bodies and flashes. Pentax also produces built-in waterproof point-and-shoot models, and Fantasea manufacturers casing for SLR bodies including those made by Canon, Nikon, and Olympus.
"Sea&Sea is the only company in the world that manufactures only underwater imaging equipment," states the company website.
The Sea&Sea DX-1G camera includes 26MB of internal memory. The compact camera is compatible with SDHC memory media and accepts AAA batteries. Sea&Sea is currently developing an optional hoteshoe mounted LED Strobe Adapter for the camera, according to the release.
