U.S. Digital Prints to Total 16 Billion in 2009

February 14, 2007 – Digital printing volumes will total 16 billion prints in 2009, according to a report released yesterday by market research firm InfoTrends. InfoTrends predicts that while digital printing will rise in 2009, the printing trend will level off by the year 2011.

According to the forecast report, U.S. Consumer Photo Prints Forecast: 2006-2011, consumer printing will rise 3.2 billion in 2009, up from 13.2 billion in 2005, followed by a slight decline in 2011. One of the major factors to digital printing is digital capture device consumption, that should follow the same ebb and flow as printing volumes, according to the report.

At-home printing is still the most common printing method, followed by other popular options including retail and online printing.

“We are expecting market growth in the near future, but each year slightly more people either stop printing photos entirely or only print when they have to (Print-on-Demand),” said InfoTrends Associate Director David Haueter.
