September 6, 2006 – The majority of camera and camcorder owners look to accessorize their purchases, according to a consumer technology research firm IDC study released today. IDC found that 84 percent of survey respondents add on to existing purchases.
Out of the 416 digital camera owners and 222 camcorder owners that responded to the survey, most wanted to purchase memory cards, lenses, and 4 x 6 photo printers. The photo printer was ranked as the most desirable product.
The 4 x 6 photo printer has “emerged as a critical accessory,” according to today’s IDC press release. “Ease of use, photo print speed improvements, and eroding prices are contributing factors to the success of the 4 x 6 photo printer,” said IDC research manager Chris Chute in the release.
IDC found that major influences in camera and camcorder purchases were storage capacity of memory cards and battery type (rechargeable or not). IDC also found that a quarter of those surveyed bought a camera case with their original purchase, but most could not recall the brand name.
