Sony Unveils GPS Tracker for Sony Cameras

August 2, 2006 – Sony Electronics Inc. introduced yesterday the GPS-CS1, a GPS tracking device compatible with new Sony digital cameras and camcorders to document the time and location of each captured image.

The 3.5-inch long GPS-CS1 weighs only 2 ounces and has 12 channels, equipped with an attachment for backpacks or belt loops.

The Sony GPS tracker acts as "virtual push pins on an online map," stated Sony press release yesterday. With the Sony GPS Image Tracker Software, the new product synchs the user’s camera with a time and location stamp, using latitude and longitude coordinates. Photographers can then download their images by connecting the GPS-CS1 to their computer with a USB cable.

When using the Picture Motion Browser Software, included with Sony’s newer cameras and camcorders released after July, users can arrange their photos by location to an online map, in conjunction with Google Maps.

The retail price of the Sony GPS-CS1 is $150 and will be available in September at www.sonystyle.com/retail.
