Sony Reveals New Wi-Fi Camera, the DSC-G3, with Touch Screen and Built In Browser

January 8, 2009 -The newly unveiled Sony Cyber-shot DSC-G3 offer the most fully functional Wi-Fi experience in a camera to date. Rather than limiting access to open or password protected networks, or a single hotspot network, the G3 features a built-in web-browser, allowing connection to any Wi-Fi network at hotels and airports, or at home. Additionally, the camera comes with free Wi-Fi access through the AT&T hotspot network until 2012. Sony is also setting up a web-portal for use with the device, which will let users upload directly to a number of websites, including Picasa, YouTube and Shutterfly (though Flickr is conspicuous in its absence), and send email notifications when you upload. If you want to use other websites, the web-browser is fully operational, so access is possible.

Apart from the Wi-Fi capabilities, the G3 seems to offer essentially the same feature set as the DSC-T700 in a new housing, with the same high-resolution 921,000 3.5" LCD, built in 4GB memory, 10-megapixel sensor and 4x zoom. The G3 features a new case design, with a horizontal-sliding lens cover, and is available for $499.
