Sony Acknowledges Performance Defects in 8 Cyber-shot Models

November 27, 2006 – Last Friday, Sony Corp. acknowledged LCD and performance defects in 8 Cyber-shot models. Sony is offering free repairs for affected models, which includes the DSC-F88, DSC-M1, DSC-T1, DSC-T11, DSC-T3, DSC-T33, DSC-U40 and DSC-U50, according to a Friday Japanese Sony Corp. press release.

Sony reported that the defective Cyber-shots experience performance problems in humid environments, affecting LCD monitors and sometimes failing to shoot altogether.  /o:p>

Sony's Cyber-shot malfunctions come after a series of product-related issues and financial troubles for the manufacturer. After reporting a 94 percent profit drop this last quarter, largely due to a worldwide laptop battery recall, the Sony brand is fighting to regain its reputation as well as consumer confidence.

Sony has sold over 1 million of the potentially defective Cyber-shots models between September 2003 to January 2005, according to a Reuters news article published on Friday. Sony predicts roughly 4,000 of those models will be repaired.
