Sony ImageStation to Shut Down

Sony ImageStationSept. 5, 2007 – Sony recently announced its online photo sharing site ImageStation will shut down Feb. 1, 2008. Users can transfer their ImageStation photos to online photo provider Shutterfly, and are qualified for a free 20-page classic photo book from the site.

Users will have full access to the ImageStation functions, including buying prints or photo merchandise, until Nov. 12, 2007. Sony customers who have their photos and videos saved to ImageStation will have several ways to retrieve their files. Customers can transfer their images from the Sony ImageStation to Shutterfly and receive a free 20-page photo book and 15 free 4x6 prints, or download full resolution photos and videos individually to be saved on their computer. Customers can order all full resolution files on CD or DVD for $7.49 per disc until Jan. 14, 2008.

Sony's shutdown of its online sharing site follows suit with the announcement made by Yahoo! Photos to close its digital doors this month in favor of the popular Flickr site.

On Feb. 1, all images on Sony ImageStation will be deleted. ImageStation members can find more information about the shutdown at the Sony ImageStation website.
