Sony Europe Reveals 17-in-1 Card Reader

June 14, 2007- Sony Europe today revealed a "17-in-1" card reader for PCs. The MRW62E-S1/171 reader includes software that recognizes different card formats.

“With all our PC Accessories products we look to make our customers lives easier. The compact form factor of the 17-in-1 multi-card reader recognizes that we no longer work from a single desk and peripherals need to be portable,” said Andrew Barrow, Senior Product Manager for PC Accessories for Sony Europe’s IT Peripherals, in a press release. “With the inclusion of the Drive Letter Recognition software, we're also looking to help people make sense of what can be an alphabet spaghetti soup of drive letters and help them use the product with confidence.”

The Drive Letter Recognition software helps users keep track of multiple connected storage cards. When the device is connected to a PC, the Drive Letter recognition software displays a picture of the type of media connected rather than Windows’ traditional disk removal icons.

Compatible cards include Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick PRO Duo, MagicGate Memory Stick, Memory Stick Micro, CompactFlash, Microdrive, SmartMedia, xD-Picture Card, SD Memory Card, SDHC, miniSD Card, MultiMediaCard and RS-MMC. The reader can be used with Windows 2000 and later and Mac OS X Version 10.2 and later, and has a 2.0 USB connection.

The Sony MRW62E-S1/171 will be available in Europe in late June 2007.
