- By Steve Morgenstern
The Sony DSC-W220 is a $190 camera that inherits several features from its higher-cost cousins in the Cyber-Shot line, including a relatively high 12.1-megapixel resolution, a 4x zoom, Intelligent Scene Recognition and Dynamic Range Optimization. Our First Impressions review, based on hands-on experience with a pre-production model at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, follows.

The Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W220 represents an attempt to provide a range of higher-end camera features, including Sony's Intelligent Scene Recognition and Dynamic Range Optimization systems, a 4x optical zoom (versus the typical 3x), 12.1-megapixel resolution and optical image stabilization in a camera priced below the magic $200 price barrier. The camera is slated to ship in March for about $190.
The following is based on our hands-on experence with a preproduction model of the camera at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Under the circumstances, of course, picture quality and other factors we assess through extensive lab testing during a full review process will have to wait for another day, but we can share a first read on the camera's capabilities.
