Sample Photos

In the following sample images, clicking on the larger image will download the full resolution original. Each photo is accompanied by four actual-size crops.

Landscape Sample

Focal length: 8.3mm
Aperture: f/4.5
Shutter: 1/400
ISO:125

This shot of Alcatraz from the north was taken from a moving boat, with the camera in the intelligent auto mode. In this mode, the camera picks the scene mode it thinks is appropriate, and it went for the landscape mode for this one. The resulting image looks good, apart from some JPEG compression noise in the clouds (first crop), some noise (second crop) and a small amount of chromatic aberration (last crop)

Panoramic Sample

Focal length: 4.3mm
Aperture: f/4.5
Shutter: 1/400
ISO:125

Taken from almost the same spot as the photo above, this panoramic photo shows what a good job the iSweep panorama mode can do, even from a moving boat. The only real problem here is a slight error on the buoy: it appears to be transparent on the right side, presumably due to the movement of the buoy as the camera panned.

Night Shot Sample

Focal length: 4.43mm
Aperture: f/3.5
Shutter: 1/8
ISO:1250

Shot in the Hand-held Twilight mode, this shot of the burnt out Wardens house on Alcatraz shows how the camera can capture very sharp night images by taking several shots and combining them automatically. Because it was taken hand-held, a shot like this would be subject to camera shake, but this one is pretty sharp.
