Sample Photos

In the following sample images, clicking on the larger image will download the full resolution original. Each photo is accompanied by four actual-size crops.

Wildlife Sample

Focal length: 24.7mm
Aperture: f/5.6
Shutter: 1/200
ISO: 80

This bird was kind enough to stop close by so we could photograph it. While the 4x zoom lens helped us, the shot was more due to its lack of fear of humans.

While the small version looks fine, the 100% crops show that the camera chose a rather low shutter speed for the situation.

Food Sample

Focal length: 6.18mm
Aperture: f/5.6
Shutter: 1/800
ISO: 80

The T900 has a dedicated ‘gourmet’ scene mode, which boosts certain colors. While the food does look very good, the reflective white surfaces are all very soft.

The crop on the far left shows the camera’s chromatic aberration. The slightly funny looking edge on the stalk in the rightmost crop is due to the over-sharpening problem discussed in the resolution section.

Macro Sample

Focal length: 6.18mm
Aperture: f/3.5
Shutter: 1/20
ISO: 80

Under bright sunlight, the camera over-exposed these flowers. Intelligent Auto mode correctly guessed that this was a macro situation, but it should have ratcheted down the aperture to avoid over-exposure.

Even at ISO 80 you can see evidence of noise and artifacting in these images. The crop on the far left shows how the camera over-exposed the highlights.

Detail Sample

Focal length: 6.18mm
Aperture: f/4.5
Shutter: 1/640
ISO: 80

Shooting these buildings shows an important factor of the T900’s performance. The buildings towards the edge of the frame curve inwards, which is distortion caused by the lens.

The 100% crops show the detail the camera is capable of resolving, but also the chromatic aberration on the sides of the buildings.

Low Light Sample

Focal length: 6.18mm
Aperture: f/3.5
Shutter: 1/15
ISO: 3200

This shot was taken at night, using the maximum possible ISO in order to see how the camera handled very dark situations. The white balance was set to incandescent to cope with the yellow illumination of the street lamps.

The tiny lens of the T900 was also especially prone to lens flare, as you can see occurring here, and these crops show how the high ISO settings obliterated image detail.
