The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H5 was released as the flagship of the ultra-zoom line. Along with the H2, it succeeds the H1, which had a solo release. The H5 has specifications worthy of its role: 7.1 megapixels on a 1/2.5-inch Super HAD CCD, a Carl Zeiss branded 12x optical zoom lens with image stabilization, and 32 MB of internal memory. Aiming for the enthusiast market or consumers growing out of their automatic point-and-shoot models, it provides full manual control and a chunky SLR-shaped body. The camera can even accept conversion lenses and other accessories. The H5 retains characteristics familiar to point-and-shooters, though, such as  a huge 3-inch LCD screen with a live preview, several scene modes onto its mode, dial and ease of use features like a function guide and all-text menus. The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H5 comes in black and silver housings and retails for $499.
