Sample Photos

In the following sample images, clicking on the larger image will download the full resolution original. Each photo is accompanied by four actual-size crops.

Macro Sample

ISO: 125
Shutter speed: 1/1000
Aperture: f/2.8
Focal length: 5mm

This macro shot was taken in the HX1’s shutter priority mode to try and freeze the movement of the bee. As you can see from the crops below, there is still some noise in the image, and some of the details are still a little soft. On these 100% crops, you can see the noise, as well as some JPEG compression artifacts.

Landscape Sample

ISO: 125
Shutter speed: 1/800
Aperture: f/4.5
Focal length:36.10mm

This landscape shot was taken in the iAuto mode, where the camera chose the landscape mode. Although the image is sharp at the center (see the first crop), it does get very soft at the edges (see the third crop, taken from the bottom right)

Panorama Sample

ISO: 125
Shutter speed: 1/500
Aperture: f/4
Focal length:5mm

This sample was taken using the vertical panorama mode of the camera, where the camera creates the panorama within the camera. If you look at the crops below, you can see a few places where the camera has not correctly melded the exposures together.

Low Light Sample

ISO: 3200
Shutter speed: 0.8 sec
Aperture: f/4
Focal length: 16.9mm

This low light sample was taken with the camera on a tripod with a single light on in our test lab. As you can see, this high ISO value brings in a lot of noise, but the camera did a good job of capturing the colors of our fake flowers.
