Dec. 5, 2007 – Samsung this week launched two S-series point-and-shoots, the S760 and S860. The entry-level models have nearly identical specifications, including 3x optical zoom (38-105 35mm equivalent), Samsung’s Intelligent Face Recognition Technology, digital image stabilization, and silver, black, pink, or blue color options. The 7.2-megapixel S760 will retail for $169 and the 8.1-megapixel S860 for $179. Both will be available next month.
The S760 and S860 follow up the S630 and S730, released last spring. The S760 and S860 up the megapixel count from 6 and 7.2 megapixels to 7.2 and 8.1 megapixels, respectively. In addition, both models feature 11 Scene modes: Night, Portrait, Children, Landscape, Close-Up, Sunset, Dawn, Backlight, Fireworks, Beach & Snow, and Self Portrait.
A Function Description feature displays easy-to-read descriptions of the Scene modes. In addition, a special effects “E” button allows in-camera editing such as resizing, adjusting brightness and color, and fixing red eyes.
Both cameras capture video at 640 x 480 resolution at 30 frames per second. Digital image stabilization is also functional in Movie mode. Both cameras run on two AA batteries.
