Snapfish Baiting Consumers with Reduced Print Prices

May 27, 2005- Online photo service Snapfish will reduce the price of prints ordered by customers on their website by up to 45 percent in a move that will undercut pricing of competitors such as ClubPhoto, DotPhoto and Kodak.

Customers can now order 4 x 6-inch digital camera and camera phone prints for 12 cents, down from 19 cents previously. If a consumer wants to go with a Snapfish prepaid plan, 4 x 6 prints will cost 10 cents each.

'We believe this move will spark further growth in the overall digital photography market,' said Larry Lesley, senior vice president, Consumer Imaging and Printing at Hewlett Packard, Snapfish parent company. 'A true complement to our home photo printing offering, today's announcement encourages consumers to engage more deeply in the digital photography experience, driving further sharing and printing of photos whether online, in the home or at retail.'

Snapfish’s 5 x 7 print packages now range between 29-79 cents, compared to the previous 59-95 cents. The previous cost of 8 x 10 prints was $3.79 and now Snapfish will charge $2.99. Wallet size prints will also see their prices reduced from $1.79 to 99 cents.

ClubPhoto charges 19 cents for a 4 x 6 print, as does DotPhoto. Kodak charges 25 cents per 4 x 6 photo, while Shutterfly charges 29 cents for a 4x 6 print. A 19 cent 4 x 6 print is also offered by Shutterfly, but it is only available through their prepaid plan.

'Every company pledges 'value' to its customers, but only a select few of the best companies consistently deliver on the promise,' said Ben Nelson, vice president and general manager, Snapfish, HP. 'Since our founding in 1999, 'best value' has been our promise to Snapfish users and, with today's news, Snapfish isn't just the best place to share, store and print precious memories online, it is truly the best value in photography.'

Snapfish is also touting that digital printing online is now on average less expensive than film. According to Snapfish, an average film print costs 25 cents, pushing the average price lower to 12 cents changes the pricing threshold for all manufacturers.
