August 18, 2005 – Sanyo North America has announced the appointment of its new president Hideo Nakai. A 25 year veteran of the company, Nakai will head Sanyo Electric Co.’s, North American wing, which had over $3 billion in combined annual sales for its 12 companies last year.
Nakai’s appointment comes as Sanyo struggles to establish itself as a viable consumer electronics brand in the United States. Fortune magazine recently ranked the company the 17th biggest money loser worldwide, following its 171.5 billion yen ($1.5 billion) loss last year.
