Cologne, Germany, September 30, 2006 - SanDisk Corp. introduced its new high memory Extreme III CompactFlash cards at 12GB and 16GB on Tuesday. The SanDisk Extreme III 12GB will retail for $779.99 and the 16GB will retail at $1,049.99 when they become available in December.
Called the “highest capacity cards in the world,” according to the SanDisk press release, the SanDisk Extreme III cards are geared for RAW shooters and high-end digital cameras.
In addition to higher storage capacity, SanDisk promises that the new cards will have high reading and transfer speeds for easier workflow.
“While the speed of the card is important for in-camera performance, card-to-computer transfer rates are becoming an increasingly important workflow consideration,” stated the release. The new SanDisk cards are geared towards eliminating the “bottleneck” of workflow, according to the release.
The 12GB and 16GB CF cards read and write at a speed of 20MB per second. The SanDisk ESP (Enhanced Super-Parallel Processing) and NAND flash memory chips enable faster card to computer transfer, stated the release.
As SanDisk cards are known for their tolerance to withstand extreme temperatures, the Extreme III cards are guaranteed (with a limited ten-year warranty) to operate between -13ºF to 185ºF. The SanDisk Extreme III 12GB and 16GB CompactFlash cards include RescuePRO software.
