July 19, 2007 – SanDisk Corporation has announced the release of the SanDisk Extreme Ducati Edition CompactFlash and SD Plus cards. Released in partnership with Italian motorcycle race Ducati Corse, the CompactFlash cards will be available in 4GB and 8GB and the SD Plus card in 4GB.
“With the SanDisk Extreme Ducati Edition cards, we have reached a new threshold of speed – 45 megabytes per second for the CompactFlash cards and 20MB/sec1 for the SD Plus card,” said Tanya Chuang, director of worldwide retail product marketing for the high performance imaging market at SanDisk, in a press release. “These speeds allow for fast transfers of images from the cards, and are especially useful for professional photographers in their work-flow environments."
The special edition CompactFlash card is twice as fast as the SanDisk Extreme III card and is 5MB faster than the new SanDisk Extreme IV card, according to the release.
The Ducati Corse emblem and images of racers are imprinted on the packaging and front of the memory cards. The SD Plus model has a snap-open connector to directly plug the card into a computer. A Ducati USB Flash Drive is also planned for release.
The cards will be available in August in photo specialty stores, retailers, and department stores in both North America and Europe. Cards may also be ordered online. The 4GB CompactFlash card will retail for $164.99 and the 8GB for $314.99. The SD Plus card has a suggested retail price of $129.99.
Of SanDisk’s partnership with Ducati course, Wes Brewer, vice president of SanDisk’s Cards and Accessories Division, in a press release, said it “takes the marketing of our memory products into a new dimension.
