January 30, 2007 – Adding to their line of personal media player cameras, Samsung today announced the i7, a 7.2-megapixel camera with video and music capabilities. The camera has a rotating LCD display, facial recognition technology, and a Tour Guide function. Pricing for the i7 has not yet been announced. The camera is currently slated for European and Asian markets, according to Samsung representatives.
The Samsung i7 follows the 6-megapixel i6 called the “world’s first PMP in a digital camera,” according to the company website. The i7, like the i70 that was announced this month at CES, totes a 7.2-megapixel count and a 3x optical zoom lens.
The new camera, however, adds a rotating LCD screen that measures 3 inches and can rotate 180 degrees, according to a company press release today. Users can listen to MP3 files when the display is at 0 degrees. At 90 degrees, the i7 is a PMP (Portable Multimedia Player) for audio and video functions. When the LCD is turned 180 degrees, the i7 can record still images and MPEG-4 video. The LCD monitor is also Touch Screen sensitive, equipped with Samsung’s Physical User Interface.

Among its other features, the Samsung i7 comes with anti-shake technology and facial recognition for auto focus and auto exposure for portraits. The i7 also has a Tour Guide feature, seen on the NV11 and L74 announced today, that provides users with travel information from 30 different countries. The i7 has a maximum ISO 1600 sensitivity.
Users can store 512MB of data on the camera’s internal memory, according to specification sheet. The Samsung i7 is compatible with SD, SDHC, and MMC media.
