Sample Photos

In the following sample images, clicking on the larger image will download the full resolution original. Each photo is accompanied by four actual-size crops.

Depth of Field Sample

Focal length: 4.9mm (27mm equiv.)
ISO: 80
Aperture: f/3.5
Shutter speed: 1/90 of a second

This shot was taken in the Smart Auto mode of the camera, with the auto focus on the multi spot mode. However, the camera failed to detect the statue, instead focusing on the tree and setting a rather wide aperture. As a consequence, the face of the statue is out of focus.

Telephoto Sample

Focal length: 22.5mm (125mm equiv.)
ISO: 80
Aperture: f/3.5
Shutter speed: 1/250 of a second

This shot of some of the local wildlife was taken at the longest zoom setting of the TL225. Although the image is acceptably sharp in the center of the frame, it gets a little soft at the edges.

Macro Sample

Focal length: 4.9mm (27mm equiv.)
ISO: 240
Aperture: f/3.5
Shutter speed: 1/15 of a second

Taken in the Super Macro mode of the camera, this shot of President Hamilton shows that the camera can capture a good amount of detail, although there is not much depth of field in the image.

Very Low Light Sample

Focal length: 4.9mm (27mm equiv.)
ISO: 240
Aperture: f/3.5
Shutter speed: 1/15 of a second

This image was shot in extremely low light. In program mode, the camera basically couldn’t handle it; the max shutter speed of 1 second and widest aperture of f/3.5 produced an underexposed image. Still, the color is acceptable and the noise is low. We tried a similar shot in Night scene mode (which allows an 8-second shutter speed), but it didn’t work; the camera seemed to lock focus at infinity.
