Samsung TL100

At CES 2009 we managed to get our hands on a pre-production unit of the new Samsung pocket-sized point-and-shoot, the TL100. Expected to ship in the first half of 2009, this tiny camera measures only 0.67 inches deep, but packs a 12-megapixel sensor and 3x zoom in its slender frame. While the model we tried out certainly wasn't final, we've whip ped together a few observations in the following First Impressions review.

Fresh from the Samsung labs, we've managed to get our hands on the super-sleek TL100. This sliver of a camera shoots at 12-megapixel resolution, with a 3x zoom, all in a svelte 0.67-inch body. While the sample we took for a trial run was not a final production-run camera, we were able to garner a few impressions. On the negative side, the lens was decidedly on the slow side, and the buttons are tiny. In the camera's favor, it seems to have an excellent menu system, as well as a large potential benefit from its automatic "Smart" mode. You can expect to see the TL100 on the shelves some time in the first half of 2009, with pricing yet to be announced.
Incidentally, in reading the following, your eyes are not playing tricks: we worked with both a red and a black model of the camera, as reflected in the photos.
