At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week we had the chance to try out a very pre-production version of a newly announced compact camera, the SL420 from Samsung. There's no announced price yet, and the confirmed shipping information so far is "first half of 2009." Still, as we worked our way through the features of what on the surface seems like a fairly ordinary-looking camera, we uncovered several surprising and useful features, including a 5x zoom lens, a wide range of color modes to employ while shooting, extensive picture control options available during video recording, and the option to record voice annotations while shooting, or add them afterward. Here's a whirlwind tour of the SL420, to whet your appetite.
