Front
The Samsung NV7 has a retro look with its wide front, thickened hand grip, wide lens, and tall flash unit. The camera's minimalist black frame also helps it pass as an old-school model. The hand grip is shown on the left; it is thicker than the rest of the camera and has a pyramid-like shape. At the top of the hand grip is where the mode dial protrudes out of its side; only the etched lines on the side of the dial can be seen. On the inner portion of the grip, the top has a tiny self-timer indicator lamp. The lens is in the center of the main portion of the camera body. Directly above the lens is a Samsung logo, and a flash unit pops up above it when needed. On the top left of the lens is a circular remote control detector and a microphone. To the top right is an auto focus assist lamp. To the bottom left of the lens is the NV7 OPS logo. Around the inner rim of the lens are its specs: "Schneider-Kreuznach VarioPlan Zoom 6.3-44.7 mm."

Back
Some users won’t be quite sure what to think of the back. The left side of the camera has a 2.5-inch LCD screen that remains unframed and flush with the camera body. There are seven identical square buttons below the LCD and six identical buttons to the right of the LCD; these form the "Smart Touch" interface. At the intersection of these two lines of buttons is a circular button with a playback icon on it. Next to the bottom button to the right of the LCD is an optical picture stabilization icon with the word "back." In the top right corner of the NV7’s back is a thin zoom lever. The little paddle can be pushed upwards to zoom in and down to zoom out or view index screens in playback mode. To the right of the zoom lever, and extending to about halfway down the camera body, is a metal thumb grip that curves up and has a wrist strap eyelet incorporated into its design.

Left Side
The left side is completely blank and shows only the black-colored thin profile of the camera body.

Right Side
The only feature visible on the right side is the thumb grip that extends outward, curls toward the back, and has a hole in it for attaching the wrist strap.

Top
The view from the top shows a wide lens barrel extending from the thinner camera body with "Optical Picture Stabilization" emblazoned atop the barrel. There is also a decorative shiny blue band that runs around the barrel. There is a large chrome circle on the left side of the top that looks like a button, but it is only decorative. A flash unit sits to its right; when closed, it is easy to see the label that states "7.2 Megapixels." Directly to its right is a power button surrounded by a blue LED. The shutter release button, which is just as big as the power button, is less than a centimeter to the right – just a bit too close. The mode dial is all the way to the right side.

Bottom
Beneath the hand grip on the left is the battery compartment. The door slides inward and springs open to reveal the battery and memory card slots. To its right is the USB connector that hooks up to the included multi-connector cable or optional camera dock. Below the lens is a quarter-inch tripod socket.
