Samsung Launches S1000, S700
July 20, 2006 – Today, Samsung Opto-Electronics America, Inc. unveiled two new entry-level S-series cameras, the 10-megapixel S1000 and the 7-megapixel S700. The S1000 is retailed at $349.99, and the S700 is priced at $249.99. Both digital cameras will be available in August. The Samsung S1000 and S700 both come fitted with 3x optical zoom and a 2.4 inch LCD. The cameras have MPEG video capabilities. The S1000 can record at high quality (640 x 480) at 30 fps for up to an hour, states today’s Samsung press release.
The new cameras are equipped with built-in movie editing options, a special effects hot key, and seven scene modes (landscape, close-up, sunset, dawn, backlight, fireworks, and beach/snow). The Samsung S1000 and S700 both come with in-camera editing options for still pictures, including trimming, resizing, and rotation, along with photo frame options. The S-series cameras also come with a voice memo recording function.
The S1000 and the S700 follow other Samsung S-models including the 5.1-megapixel S500 priced at $149, the 6.1-megapixel S600 retailed at $219, and the 8.1-megapixel S800 priced at $299. These cameras share the same LCD size and optical zoom of the new S1000 and S700.
The new S1000 and the S700 mark the fourth and fifth cameras that Samsung launched in this month alone, following three NV cameras released on July 3. The intense camera production is part of the company’s ambitious goal to become one of the top three digital camera manufacturers by 2010, according to a June 20th press conference, in which Samsung is attempting to bump Kodak, Canon, and Sony.
"This, combined with the recent launch of our NV Series, enables us to deliver products that meet the needs of a diverse dealer and consumer base," said Samsung National Marketing Manager Stewart Henderson in the release.
