Jan. 6, 2008 – Samsung today added two models to its NV-series: the 8.1-megapixel NV30 and 10-megapixel NV40. Both have Dual Image Stabilization and a secondary mode dial

Take a look at the Samsung digital cameras
that accesses color modes. The NV30 will retail for $279 when it ships next month, and the NV40 will retail for $329 when it ships in March.

Aside from their megapixel count, the cameras are identical, featuring 3x Schneider optical zoom lenses, 2.5-inch LCD screens, and Samsung’s new DRIM Engine image processor, which aims to improve processing speed, shutter lag, and shot-to-shot time.
New to the NV-series, Samsung’s Dual Image Stabilization combines Optical Image Stabilization with Digital Image Stabilization to reduce blur due to camera shake.

The Photo Style Selector dial, located opposite the standard mode dial on top of the cameras, allows users to set color settings to Soft, Vivid, Forest, Retro, Cool, Calm, or Classic without entering a menu. In addition, both cameras utilize Samsung’s Smart Touch user interface, found on most NV-series cameras, which allows users to adjust controls by dragging their fingers along touch-sensitive buttons around the LCD.

The NV30 and NV40 shoot movies with sound and optical zoom in VGA (640 x 480) resolution at up to 30 frames per second. A movie stabilizer helps eliminate blur from camera shake, and Samsung’s Successive Recording mode allows users to pause and restart filming without saving each clip as an individual file.

Both cameras’ face detection automatically focuses on and exposes for up to nine faces, and feature a Self Portrait mode that utilizes face detection and only snaps a photo when the subject is in the center of the frame. Both have 14 Scene modes: Night, Portrait, Children, Landscape, Close-Up, Text, Sunset, Dawn, Backlight, Fireworks, Beach & Snow, Café, Food, and Self Portrait. Both feature an Auto Red-Eye Fix mode, in-camera editing to remove red eyes post-capture.

Both cameras also feature Samsung’s Multi-Slide Show mode, which allows users to choose between five transitions and set preloaded or their own MP3 music to slide shows. A Function Description feature also provides brief explanations of each function to aid beginners.
