Ricoh Announces Firmware Update to R5

December 27, 2006 – Ricoh announced a firmware update to the 7.2-megapixel Caplio R5 that improves the stability of the camera’s USB connection to computers. The version 1.55 update comes after three other updates issued by Ricoh since October.

In November, Ricoh updated connectivity problems between the camera and the SD memory card. In October, two separate updates were released. The first one improved the color balance and the quality of the LCD screen. It also made the macro mode’s auto focus more accurate and fixed the histogram display. The second update improved the accuracy of the automatic white balance setting and addressed some of the SD memory card connectivity problems.

The Ricoh Caplio R5 was announced in August 2006 with a full feature set. It followed the Ricoh R4 with more resolution at 7.2 megapixels and better LCD screen resolution. The Ricoh Caplio R5 has a 2.5-inch monitor with 230,000 pixels and a 7.1x optical zoom lens with CCD-shift image stabilization. The digital camera has mainly automatic modes, but it offers a few manual options such as ISO sensitivity up to 1600. It is equipped with a battery that lasts an estimated 380 shots per charge.

The R5’s firmware update can be downloaded from the Ricoh web site for Windows and Macintosh operating systems.
