May 24, 2007 – Sony and news agency Reuters have launched the "Take Your Best Shot" photo contest. Citizen photojournalists can submit photos and videos online to the You Witness News website for the chance to win a Sony camcorder, digital camera, or trip to New York to accompany a Reuters photographer.
The contest comes at a time when citizen journalism is erupting. Yahoo! and Reuters launched You Witness News in December 2006. Citizens can upload newsworthy photo and video to the site and earn a profit if their coverage is distributed by Reuters.
Take Your Best Shot contest entrants can submit their photos (in JPEG, GIFF, or PNG format) or videos (AVI or MOV) online, taken between the dates of May 7 to July 2. The entries will be judged on quality and newsworthiness by Reuters representatives. The grand prize winner will receive a Sony HDR-HC5 High Definition Handycam camcorder and a three day, two night trip to New York to shadow a Reuters photographer. Semifinalists will receive a Sony Alpha A100 DSLR camera.
