PhotoShelter to Host Photography 2.0 Town Hall Meetings
August 17, 2007- PhotoShelter, the personal archiving system for digital images, will join forces with other players in the online imaging field to host photographic symposiums in a town hall meeting format. Focusing on the effects of the Internet on commercial photography, 'Photography 2.0: The Business of Photography in the Web Era' will include active participants such as manufacturer Hewlett-Packard, portfolio software developer liveBooks, and calibration equipment maker X-Rite, among others. The meetings will kick off in September.'We designed the format of 'Photography 2.0' based on extended conversations with photo buyers and photographers of all types,' said PhotoShelter CEO Allen Murabayashi in a press release. 'The symposium is just one of several efforts we will unveil over the course of the next few months to help photographers and image buyers establish a new way of conducting business over the Web.'
More than 30 photographers and image buyers will gather at the town meetings. Speakers include George Pitts, professor of photography at Parsons School of Design and former photography director of Life magazine; Brittney Blair, art director for Chicago magazine; and other photographer Bill Frakes of Sports Illustrated.
Each of the six half-day symposiums will include the "A Career in the Internet Age" lecture and "The Internet's Impact on Photography" roundtable discussion, followed by an evening reception.
Photography 2.0 will tour in the following cities:
-New York City, N.Y., Sept. 14
-Atlanta, Ga., Sept. 17
-Chicago, Ill., Sept. 19
-Portland, Ore., Sept. 24
-San Francisco, Calif., Sept. 26
-Los Angeles, Calif., Sept. 28
The registration is free, and the limited space is first come, first serve, according to the release.
