Phanfare Offers First Six Months Free

PhanfareMay 24, 2007 – As a response to the pending close of Yahoo! Photos this fall, photo and video sharing site Phanfare yesterday announced it is offering six months of free service for existing Yahoo! users.

Yahoo! Photos announced earlier this month it would officially shut down in favor of its more profitable Flickr site, leaving a vacuum for the 2 billion plus Yahoo images uploaded last year. Phanfare hopes to give those photos a new home.

"Yahoo! Photos provided a great way for customers to share photos and the personal memories they represent in a private environment," said Phanfare CEO Andrew Erlichson in a company press release today. "The photo-printing sites that Yahoo! Photos has highlighted as alternatives to their service offer excellent printing services but they are not focused on the sharing needs of families. For those customers whose primary goal is to share their treasured photos and videos in a secure and private environment with no ads or storage limits, a Phanfare online album is the better choice."

Phanfare offers users privacy settings, no advertisements, and unlimited storage for video and photos at full resolution, according to the release. Phanfare's offer is valued at about $42.

Existing Yahoo! Photos users can make the switch to Phanfare at www.phanfare.com/yahoo. After the 6-month introductory period, Phanfare charges $6.95 per month, $54.95 per year, or a $299.95 for a lifetime membership.
