Pentax Introduces Optio A20
August 21, 2006 – Along with the introduction of the M20 today, Pentax Imaging Co. launched an addition to their advanced point-and-shoot line, introducing the Optio A20. The 10-megapixel A20 offers a host of anti-shake features mode and an expanded sensitivity range and will retail for approximately $350 when it becomes available in October.
With the same introductory retail price as its predecessor, the new 10-megapixel A20 follows the 8-megapixel A10. Both the A20 and the A10 possess a 1/1.8-inch CCD sensor, 2.5-inch LCD screen, and a 3x optical zoom lens. The A20 zoom lens is designed to correct for spherical aberration and comes with anti-glare coating.
The Pentax Optio A20 boasts three key anti-shake features: Shake Reduction for camera shake, High ISO mode to reduce blur in dimly lit situations, and Movie Anti-Shake for stable video recording.
Pentax’s A20 also incorporates a new application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) for high-speed image processing which corrects color and tone, stated the release.
The camera, like the M20 released today, has face recognition AF and AE for portraits to "ensure bright, beautiful photos of people with perfectly focused faces free of shadows caused by exposing for the background or the color of clothing," stated the release.
The A20 includes other features such as a calendar display and a Green Mode that activates automatic settings. The camera is compatible with PictBridge, DPOF, Exif, and Print Image Matching III.
