June 28, 2007 – Pentax yesterday announced the K100D Super DSLR, an update to the K100D. The 6.1-megapixel Super edition offers more advanced features such as a dust removal system and full compatibility with Pentax SDM lenses. The Pentax K100D Super will retail for $519 for the body and $599.95 with a 18-55mm lens when it becomes available in August.
The K100D Super is the successor to Pentax’s entry level K100D SLR, released in July 2006. Like the earlier model, the new K100D Super has a 6.1 megapixel CCD and the Pentax Shake Reduction (SR) system. The camera uses a shifting APS-C sized CCD mechanism that promises to reduce blur by a 2 to 3.5-stop advantage.
Pentax updated the Super model with its Dust Reduction (DR) system, found on the higher-end K10D SLR. The DR system uses a Super Protect coating that prevents dusts from sticking to the surface of a low-pass filter, while the shifting CCD oscillates to shake off remaining dust. Additionally, the K100D Super is fully compatible with the entire line of K, KA, KAF, and KAF2 mounted SDM lenses offered by Pentax.
The Pentax K100D Super has the same 11-point auto focus system, maximum sensitivity of 3200 ISO, and 2.8 fps continuous shooting rate as the K100D.
The K100D Super is fitted with a 2.5-inch, 210,000 pixel LCD with a 140 degree viewing angle and a Penta mirror viewfinder with a 96 percent field of view and 0.85 magnification.
