Sample Photos

In the following sample images, clicking on the larger image will download the full resolution original. Each photo is accompanied by four actual-size crops.

Flowers Sample

Focal length: 4.90mm (28mm equiv.)
ISO: 80
Aperture: f/3.3
Shutter speed: 1/800 of a second

This shot of spring flowers was captured using the iA mode, where the camera picks a scene mode automatically. For this shot, it chose a macro mode, which was a good choice. The fine details of the flowers are well reproduced, including the white highlights of the petals.

Macro Sample

Focal length: 4.90mm
ISO: 80
Aperture: f/3.3
Shutter speed: 1/60 of a second

Shooting in iA (Intelligent Auto) mode with SF macro focus enabled, the TS2 did a decent job of capturing the fine details of the snow in this chilly shot. However, the depth of field of the image is very small; only a small portion of the snow flakes are in focus. We would have preferred that the camera up the ISO slightly and increase the aperture to give more depth.

Low Light Sample (IA mode)
Focal length: 7.80mm

ISO: 800
Aperture: f/4.3
Shutter speed: 0.6 of a second

This low light shot was taken with the camera in iA auto mode, where the camera increased the ISO to 800 and upped the shutter speed to 0.6 seconds. That mean that the image is rather on the noisy side, as you can see from the crops below.

Low Light Sample (Night Mode)

Focal length: 7.80mm
ISO: 80
Aperture: f/4.3
Shutter speed: 6 seconds

This image was shot in the same lighting conditions as the one above, but with the camera in the Night Scene mode. What this mode did was to keep the ISO low, but increase the shutter speed to a lengthy 6 seconds. Noise reduction is also used to try and ameliorate the effect of this long shutter speed, and the resolution is reduced to 3 megapixels. The result is impressive; the image has much lower noise than the one above, with much better detail. However, you will need to have the camera on a tripod to use this mode effectively; 6 seconds is a very long time to hold the camera steady.
