Panasonic Launches First HDTV Photo Viewer

July 19, 2006 – Today, Panasonic Corp. launched the DMW-SDP1, its first HDTV Photo Player. The player acts as a connecting viewing device for photos taken on SD-compatible cameras, including Panasonic’s LUMIX camera.

Panasonic’s North American Product Manager Yakeshi Yamada, in today’s press release, called the DMW-SCP1 Photo Player, “the one-stop source for the integrated complete home entertainment solution.”

Weighing less than half a pound, the portable photo player can easily connect to large screen TVs to view pictures. Users can insert their SD or SDHC memory card into the photo player slot and then view photos at 1080i on any high definition TV, including Panasonic’s Plasma TVs .

The DMW-SCP1 is equipped with Panasonic’s Venus Engine III image processing LSI, the same technology in their LUMIX cameras, for shorter start-up times and quicker slideshows, according to the press release. The DMW-SCP1 comes with slideshow transition effects, a 25-thumbnail playback, and automatic rotation of photos. The photo player also supports JPEG movies at VGA (640 x 480), wide VGA (848x480), and hi-def video (1280 x 720 at 15fps). The DMW-SCP1 is PictBridge compatible for direct printing and comes with a remote control.

“Panasonic is returning people to a time when they sat in their living room and shared photo albums and memories with family and friends,” said Yamada.

The Panasonic HDTV Photo Player DMW-SDP1 is retailed at $129.95.
