Panasonic 8GB High Speed SD CardJuly 30, 2007 – Panasonic today introduced a new memory card, the 8GB Pro High Speed SD Memory Card. The card promises increased storage and quick write speed for large volumes of photos and consecutive shooting. The Panasonic 8GB Pro High Speed SD card will be available in September and retail for $159.99.

Available in 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB storage capacities, the new Panasonic memory card (model number RP-SDV08GU1K) carries a Class 6 speed specification for a write speed of 20MB per second. Geared for high resolution photos and high definition video, the 8GB card can record 3080 still images at 10-megapixel resolution or 80 minutes of MPEG-4 movies in Fine quality setting, according to a company press release today.

“The future of video and still photo is here with SD card-based camcorders. This new style of recording allows for removable high speed SD cards to be the high definition glue that connects to other Panasonic products,” said Panasonic National Marketing Manager of Optical Imaging Alex Fried at a press conference. “As we expand our HD camcorders and high resolution digital still cameras, consumers will expect card-based recording media that have larger capacity and higher data transfer speeds,” he added.

Panasonic plans to launch a 16GB SDHC card later this year, according to the release.
