May 18, 2007 – Panasonic today unveiled the DMC-FX100, what the company calls the “world’s first 12.2 megapixel digital camera with 28mm wide-angle." In addition to the high megapixel count, the point-and-shoot adds a new High Speed Burst mode, High Sensitivity ISO setting, and greater distance built-in flash. The Panasonic FX100 will hit the shelves in July.

“Thanks in large part to the DMC-FX100’s newly developed exclusive LEICA DC lens and the high-quality, high-performance Venus Engine III, you no longer have to sacrifice power in a compact camera,” said Alex Fried, National Marketing Manager, Optical Imaging, Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company in a company press release today. “With an impressive 12.2 megapixel resolution power, a 28mm wide angle lens and Intelligent Image Stabilization, the DMC-FX100 is raising the bar for the entire compact, point-and-shoot class.”

The 12.2-megapixel FX100 supersedes the previous 10-megapixel resolution standard for point-and-shoots. Casio's newest model, the 12.1-megapixel Exilim EX-Z1200, annouced earlier today, joins the FX100 as the new megapixel standard.

The Panasonic FX100 features a 2.5-inch, 207,000 pixel resolution LCD screen and a 3.6x optical zoom Leica lens with up to a 28mm wide-angle zoom. For additional zoom capabilities, users can engage the Extra Optical Zoom button that digitally zooms up to 7x at lower resolution. Like all of Panasonic’s cameras introduced this year, the FX100 comes equipped with its Intelligent Image Stabilization system to reduce blurry photos. The system includes Mega O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilization) and Intelligent ISO Control to compensate for hand shake and moving subjects. The camera also has a more powerful built-in flash that provides coverage up to 16 meters (52.5 feet).

The FX100 features a new High Speed Burst mode that shoots 8fps at a lower 2.5-megapixel resolution (3:2) or 2-megapixel resolution (4:3 and 16:9). At full resolution, the FX100 is capable of 2fps. The camera also features a brand new High Sensitivity ISO mode of 6400 ISO at 2- to 3-megapixel resolution, depending on which of the three aspect ratios is used: 4:3, 3:2, or wide 16:9. In addition, users can record movies in high definition at 1920x1080 or 1280x720 at 15fps.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX100 is compatible with Li-ion batteries and accepts SD, SDHC, and MMC media. The camera will be available in silver or black.

Key Features:
12.2 megapixel count
3.6x optical zoom Leica lens with 28mm wide-angle
New High Speed Burst at 8fps
New High Sensitivity ISO setting
New flash for 16-meter distance
