Panasonic Japan Offer Repairs for LC1 Malfunctions

February 9, 2007 – Matsushita, Panasonic’s parent company, recently announced CCD performance defects with the Lumix DMC-LC1. Panasonic is offering repair service for domestic Japanese LC1 models, according to a company press release.

Panasonic reported that pictures do not appear when photographing with select LC1 cameras, a phenomenon that the company attributes to the CCD image sensor. The Panasonic LC1, introduced in 2004, has a 2/3-inch CCD sensor.

As a result of the defects, Panasonic is offering extended repair services in Japan but has not released details about service for other areas.

Panasonic is not alone in issuing camera CCD alerts. Recent manufacturers have reported similar CCD malfunctions that result in the inability to capture photos, including eight Sony Cyber-shots models, seven Nikon Coolpix cameras, and more recently two Kyocera Finecams.
